Creating A Sample Libary Assignment Task 1 : Game Soundtrack Analysis (Assassins Creed Soundtrack)
1. How you think the sound in your chosen example has been produced (production techniques)
I believe the soundtrack was produced by using Live audio recording of a female harmonist and a live orchestra recorded separately. The orchestra is predominantly the violin but other instruments are included too.
A live guitar recording is also used, I believe, but only features in the soundtrack at the very beginning and the last part of the track.
I also think there may have been a possible auto tuner used for the female harmonist.
2. What post-production techniques have been used to create the soundtrack (using subject specific terminology)
I believe that the soundtrack has used a mixer to combine the live audio recordings of the harmonist and the orchestra but also added effects onto the harmonist. The most predominant effect used is the echo that features from about half way through until the end of the track.
A guitar is also used and added to the beginning and end of the track but does not feature in the middle at all. Whereas the females harmony is used often throughout the track but is heavily used in the middle over the top of the continuous soundtrack of the orchestra.
3. How the sound design of your chosen examples might enhance the gaming experience for audiences.
This Soundtrack is soft and harmonised, which is compared to the violent content within the gameplay and scene. This is used as they would in the movie industry to emphasise a note of sadness within the viewer while playing/watching.
The track gets heavier towards the end to give the viewer a realisation of the death and violence that is viewed or has just happened within the game.
